Perched high above the coastline of Rhodes, Esperos Village Blue & Spa is the kind of hotel that immediately makes you feel like you have escaped somewhere special.
Beautiful architecture, immaculate grounds, panoramic surroundings and a peaceful adults-only atmosphere make this an ideal choice for couples looking to slow down and enjoy a more relaxing side of Rhodes.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel was beautiful, the staff were genuinely warm and welcoming, breakfast was excellent, and there were plenty of little spaces around the resort where you could find a sun lounger and simply switch off.
It is not a hotel without its quirks, particularly because of its hillside location, but none of them would stop us from returning.
First Impressions
One of the first things we noticed was just how beautiful and well maintained the hotel is.
Esperos Village Blue & Spa is spread across a large hillside rather than being contained within one conventional hotel building. This gives the resort a much more spacious feel, with different areas and levels to discover throughout your stay.
Everything felt clean and well looked after, from the communal spaces to the pool areas.
The staff also deserve a special mention. Throughout our stay, everyone we encountered was friendly, welcoming and happy to help, which made a noticeable difference to the overall experience.
Breakfast Was a Highlight
Breakfast was easily one of our favourite things about staying here.
There was an excellent selection with plenty of choice, making it very easy to find something different each morning.
Whether you prefer a larger cooked breakfast before heading out for the day or something lighter before spending a few hours beside the pool, there is plenty to choose from.
It is one of those hotel breakfasts where you genuinely look forward to coming down in the morning.
Plenty of Places to Relax
Despite the size of the resort, we never felt like everyone was crowded into one area.
There are a good number of sun loungers dotted around different parts of the hotel, giving you more choice when deciding where to spend the afternoon.
That suited us perfectly.
Some days you might want to be around the main pool and atmosphere, while on others it is nice to find somewhere quieter, put your headphones in and completely switch off.
The adults-only setting naturally helps create a more peaceful atmosphere too, making Esperos Village particularly well suited to couples.
A Surprisingly Good Place to Work
Something we really appreciated was the hotel’s dedicated work area.
It might not be the first thing you think about when booking a holiday, but for anyone who runs a business, works remotely or simply needs to catch up on a few things while travelling, having a comfortable place to open your laptop is incredibly useful.
Rather than trying to work from your room or balancing a laptop beside the pool, there is a proper space where you can sit down and concentrate.
It is a small feature, but one we really valued.
Evening Food, Drinks and Entertainment
The hotel continues to have plenty going on once the sun goes down.
We thought the evening food was very good, and there was enough variety to make dining at the hotel an enjoyable part of the stay rather than something you simply do for convenience.
The only area we felt could have been stronger was the choice of drinks available in the evening. A wider selection would have elevated the experience, particularly when sitting down for drinks after dinner.
The hotel also puts on evening entertainment, which creates a lovely atmosphere without taking away from the relaxed nature of the resort.
One tiny addition we would have loved to see would be a selection of board and social games such as UNO or Jenga.
There were evenings when we wanted to grab a cocktail and relax around the hotel, and having a few games available would have been a simple but fun touch for couples spending the evening in.
The Beautiful Monastery
One of the most memorable features of the hotel is its beautiful monastery.
During the day it adds character to the surroundings, but it becomes particularly special once evening arrives and the building is illuminated.
Seeing the monastery glowing against the darker hillside creates a beautiful atmosphere and gives the resort a sense of place that you simply do not get from a typical modern hotel.
It quickly became one of our favourite little details about Esperos Village.
Location and Getting Around the Resort
There is one thing you should understand before booking Esperos Village Blue & Spa.
It is built on a hill.
The resort is also quite large, so depending on where your room is located, getting from one part of the hotel to another can involve a reasonable amount of walking.
For us, this was not a problem at all. In fact, we often deliberately walked because it was an easy way to get our steps in during the day.
However, it is something worth considering if you have limited mobility or simply do not enjoy walking uphill.
If you suddenly realise you need something from reception late at night, for example, the distance can feel less convenient than it would in a traditional hotel where everything is accessible by simply taking a lift downstairs.
Thankfully, the hotel offers a shuttle service around the resort that runs regularly, so you certainly do not have to walk everywhere.
Getting to the Beach and Exploring Rhodes
The hillside location also means you are slightly removed from the beach and surrounding areas.
Again, the hotel has thought about this.
A complimentary shuttle service is available to help guests reach the beach and nearby areas, which makes staying here considerably easier if you have not hired a car.
If you plan to spend most of your holiday relaxing at the hotel, the slightly remote location can actually be part of its appeal.
You feel removed from the busier tourist areas while still having a convenient way to get out and explore when you want to.
For travellers who prefer being able to walk straight out of their hotel and immediately find dozens of restaurants, shops and bars, the location is something to consider.
Would We Stay at Esperos Village Blue & Spa Again?
Definitely.
There were a couple of small things we would improve, particularly the drinks selection and adding simple entertainment such as board games for relaxed evenings.
The hillside layout will also suit some travellers more than others.
But when we look back at the overall experience, those are relatively minor points.
What we remember most is a beautiful, clean and peaceful hotel with fantastic staff, an excellent breakfast, great evening food, plenty of places to relax and a genuinely enjoyable atmosphere.
Most importantly, it is somewhere we would happily book again.
For couples looking for an adults-only escape in Rhodes where you can spend the day beside the pool, enjoy good food, explore the island when you feel like it and return somewhere peaceful in the evening, Esperos Village Blue & Spa is well worth considering.
Luxury Traveller Tips
Make the most of breakfast: The selection was one of the highlights of our stay, so give yourself enough time to enjoy it rather than rushing out in the morning.
Use the hotel shuttle: The resort is large and built into a hillside. The shuttle makes getting around much easier when you do not feel like walking.
Walk when you can: We often skipped the internal shuttle and walked instead. If mobility is not an issue, it is a great way to get some extra steps in.
Take advantage of the beach shuttle: The location is slightly removed from the beach, so the complimentary transport is particularly useful if you are staying without a car.
Explore the different relaxation areas: Do not automatically settle for the first sun loungers you see. There are loungers dotted around the resort and it is worth finding your favourite spot.
See the monastery after dark: Make sure you take a walk past once it is illuminated in the evening. It looks beautiful at night.
Bring a pack of cards or UNO: If you enjoy having a cocktail and playing a game together in the evening, pack your own as there were no board games available during our visit.
Use the work area if needed: For anyone combining travel with a little remote work, the dedicated workspace is a genuinely useful addition.
Consider the hillside before booking: We had absolutely no issue with it, but the size and gradient of the resort could be important for guests with mobility concerns.
Would we return? Absolutely: Despite a few small areas we would improve, Esperos Village Blue & Spa delivered exactly what we wanted from a relaxing adults-only stay in Rhodes.
